- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Roll dough into 1 1/2-inch balls. If desired, roll each ball in extra granulated sugar.
- Place balls on prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are set but still soft. Do not overbake.
- Let cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
