A simple recipe for soft and chewy sugar cookies that are perfect for any occasion.

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Roll dough into 1 1/2-inch balls. If desired, roll each ball in extra granulated sugar.
  7. Place balls on prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are set but still soft. Do not overbake.
  9. Let cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra sparkle, roll the cookie dough balls in granulated sugar before baking.
  • Do not overbake the cookies to ensure they remain soft and chewy.
  • Allow cookies to cool completely on a wire rack before storing.
