Ingredients
Scale
For the Dough:
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (105-115°F)
2/3 cup warm milk
5 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
3 cups all-purpose flour
For the Filling & Topping:
4 oz cream cheese, chilled and cut into 12 portions
Melted unsalted butter (for brushing)
Granulated sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
To prepare the dough, begin by combining the active dry yeast, a teaspoon of the granulated sugar, and warm water in the bowl of a stand mixer. Allow this mixture to sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes creamy and foamy.
Next, add the warm milk, melted butter, remaining granulated sugar, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
Gradually add the all-purpose flour, mixing with a dough hook until a soft, pliable dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Brush the risen dough balls with melted butter, then sprinkle generously with granulated sugar.
Create an indentation in the center of each roll and place a portion of chilled cream cheese into each indentation.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and puffed.
