Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Dough:
    • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
    • 1/4 cup warm water (105-115°F)
    • 2/3 cup warm milk
    • 5 tablespoons granulated sugar
    • 1 large egg
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
    • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • For the Filling & Topping:
    • 4 oz cream cheese, chilled and cut into 12 portions
    • Melted unsalted butter (for brushing)
    • Granulated sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. To prepare the dough, begin by combining the active dry yeast, a teaspoon of the granulated sugar, and warm water in the bowl of a stand mixer. Allow this mixture to sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes creamy and foamy.
  2. Next, add the warm milk, melted butter, remaining granulated sugar, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add the all-purpose flour, mixing with a dough hook until a soft, pliable dough forms. Knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  4. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a smooth ball.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Brush the risen dough balls with melted butter, then sprinkle generously with granulated sugar.
  7. Create an indentation in the center of each roll and place a portion of chilled cream cheese into each indentation.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and puffed.
