A classic recipe for delicious chocolate chip cookies with a chewy center and crispy edges.

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 (12 ounce) package (about 2 cups) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still slightly soft. Do not overbake.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Ensure butter is softened but not melted for best results.
  • Do not overmix the dough once the dry ingredients are added to prevent tough cookies.
  • Adjust baking time slightly based on your oven and desired cookie texture.
