A classic and satisfying recipe for Chili Cheese Dogs, featuring hot dogs nestled in buns, generously topped with chili and melted cheddar cheese, and baked until bubbly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 hot dogs
  • 8 hot dog buns
  • 1 (15 ounce) can chili con carne (no beans)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup finely diced onion (optional)
  • Mustard (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Place hot dogs in buns. If desired, lightly toast buns before placing hot dogs.
  3. Arrange hot dogs in buns on a baking sheet.
  4. Spoon chili generously over each hot dog.
  5. Top each with shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly and hot dogs are heated through.
  7. Garnish with diced onion and mustard, if desired, before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier chili, use a chili with beans or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • Other shredded cheeses like Monterey Jack or a Mexican blend can be used instead of cheddar.
  • To toast the buns, you can place them under the broiler for a minute or two before assembling the dogs.
