Ingredients
Scale
8 hot dogs
8 hot dog buns
1 (15 ounce) can chili con carne (no beans)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup finely diced onion (optional)
Mustard (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Place hot dogs in buns. If desired, lightly toast buns before placing hot dogs.
Arrange hot dogs in buns on a baking sheet.
Spoon chili generously over each hot dog.
Top each with shredded cheddar cheese.
Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly and hot dogs are heated through.
Garnish with diced onion and mustard, if desired, before serving.
Notes
For a spicier chili, use a chili with beans or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
Other shredded cheeses like Monterey Jack or a Mexican blend can be used instead of cheddar.
To toast the buns, you can place them under the broiler for a minute or two before assembling the dogs.
