A festive and flavorful appetizer arranged in a wreath shape using tomatoes, mozzarella, and fresh basil, drizzled with olive oil and served with balsamic glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 24 ounces grape or cherry tomatoes
  • 20 ounces fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini size)
  • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves
  • 23 tablespoons olive oil
  • 12 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • Sea salt and black pepper to taste
  • Balsamic glaze, for serving
  • Small wooden skewers

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash and dry the grape or cherry tomatoes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the tomatoes and mozzarella balls. Drizzle with olive oil, then sprinkle with Italian seasoning, sea salt, and black pepper. Toss gently to ensure all ingredients are evenly coated.
  3. Prepare the fresh basil: chiffonade (thinly slice) approximately 1/4 cup of basil leaves, and set aside some whole leaves for additional garnish.
  4. Assemble the skewers: Thread one tomato, followed by one mozzarella ball, then a basil leaf. Repeat this pattern, aiming for two tomatoes and two mozzarella balls per skewer, separated by basil.
  5. On a large, round serving platter, place a small bowl in the center (this bowl can be used for the balsamic glaze). Arrange the assembled skewers around the bowl, creating the shape of a festive wreath.
  6. Sprinkle the chiffonade basil over the entire wreath, and tuck additional whole basil leaves around the perimeter for a fuller, more decorative appearance.
  7. Pour balsamic glaze into the central bowl, or artfully drizzle it directly over the Caprese wreath just before presenting.
  8. Serve immediately as a stunning and flavorful appetizer.

Notes

  • For best results, use high-quality fresh mozzarella and basil.
  • The central bowl for the balsamic glaze provides a nice dipping option.
  • This appetizer is best served immediately after assembly.
